Stakeholder Self-Assessment Survey

The Plan for a Citywide System of Neighborhood Councils (the Plan) and the Los Angeles City Charter call for each Neighborhood Council to "survey its Community Stakeholders at least once biennially, to assess whether their Certified Neighborhood Council has met applicable goals set forth in the Charter" (The Plan, Article VI, Section 1). The purpose of the self-assessment is to give Neighborhood Councils an opportunity to highlight the things they've done well to serve their communities and to assess the challenges facing them in the future.

This form serves to fulfill the requirements of the Plan by soliciting stakeholders' views and perceptions of their Neighborhood Council's efforts in areas such as outreach, participation, and organizational effectiveness. The Stakeholder Survey was designed to meet the requirements of the Plan, while minimizing burden of participation to allow for ease of completion by stakeholders. Once completed, please return to your Neighborhood Council. The deadline to return completed surveys is June 30, 2008.

Griffith Park Burn Area Wildlife Habitat Restoration Project

Dear Neighbors,

Griffith Park’s wildlife needs your help!

Please join in the effort to help Griffith Park recover from the fire.
Volunteers are needed for habitat restoration.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays this spring, volunteers will be removing
invasive plants that are quickly overgrowing the burn area.  These
invasive plants are competing with the native plants for light, water,
and nutrients.  The wildlife of Griffith Park needs you to help the
native plants that provide their food, water, and shelter.

We will begin with a training about native and non-native plants in Griffith Park, so don't be late! If you have them, please bring your own gloves and/or pruners. A limited supply of gloves and tools will be available (most work can be easily done by hand). Please make sure to wear long- sleeved shirts, long pants, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. You may also need sunglasses, sunblock, and a hat.

School teachers (6th grade and up) are encouraged to volunteer with
their classes and can contact their regular transportation providers for
free or reduced school-day-use of their school buses for this service
learning field trip.

For more information, or to arrange specific times, dates, parking, etc., please contact:

Lake Balboa Compromise Plan is Approved

The City Council approved the compromise plan of expanding Lake Balboa. This compromise omits the industrial area north of Saticoy St. east of Van Nuys Airport and the airport itself. It also omits the area south of Victory Blvd. west of Balboa, but includes all the park area south of Victory to the L.A. River east of Balboa. That means that the Lake Balboa is in the community of Lake Balboa.

To read the motion expanding Lake Balboa that was passed by the City Council with a description of the new boundaries, go to http://clkrep.lacity.org/councilfiles/06-2613_ca_11-02-07.pdf

Click the picture below for a detailed PDF map of Lake Balboa's new boundaries. It's a large file (2Mb), so please be patient while it loads.
